Hot desking vs WFH

It’s not a battle, honest!

The thing with the last two years is that we’ve been forced to work from home, and not be allowed to consider anything else. Going to the office felt both unnecessary, and only for those who were in difficult circumstances at home.

By default, working from home became something we had to adapt to and make work. An interesting thing about psychology and resilience tells us that when we do that, we rationalise the benefits of doing so, and actively seek to talk well about that adaptation - even though it’s not a great solution for most people. Some people decided to create a dedicated home workspace/office, and they had the privilege, money and space to be able to do so. For many, they haven’t got that choice, even two years into this pandemic.

WFH brings unexpected benefits. You are suddenly saving on the cost of a commute. You’ve recouped that commute time, and now have more time at home.

But the reality is those benefits fast get lost due to the following reasons.

This is taken from a survey of 3000 remote workers. The survey was carried out by Buffer.

This is where coworking really offers a great option for people who are experiencing these things in Epping. And at The Epping Connection, we pay attention to ensuring your experience here gives you the energy to do your best work.

Taking a regular hot desk means the following:

  • A regular desk for you to work from that is yours

  • Being able to separate work from home because you’re coming to TEC

  • Having the flexibility to work from your desk, our sofa or a solo workspace depending on what you need that day

  • Access to superfast WiFi

  • Great tea and coffee available on tap everyday

  • Connecting with local Epping people and building a community

  • Bringing your pet so our Community Managers can dote on them

As professionals, we have to take the time to figure out what is good for our productivity, and with an option like taking a hot desk locally in Epping, this means you can experiment and figure out what is good for you.
